Congratulations to all our 2018 10 Under 40 award winners! You’ve all been positive influences on our community, and your efforts have made Rhinelander a better place to work, live, and play!

The Top 10 Under 40 provides an opportunity for Rhinelander’s group of growing young professionals to be recognized and showcased. Winners were judged in three categories: business success, mentorship/leadership, and civic/philanthropic activities. Rhinelander’s appreciation for young leaders, business people, and entrepreneurs has been proven by the nearly fifty nominees that are being showcased by the Top 10 Under 40 ceremony. Rhinelander has many recreational opportunities, restaurants, and cultural opportunities that are attracting some of the top young people in the Northern Midwest.

Winners

Brett Aylesworth

Brett Aylesworth

Brett has been the rink manager at Rhinelander Ice Arena for the past 12 years where he organizes programs and tournaments for the Rhinelander Ice Association. He is an active member in the community and a volunteer with the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce (past president), Nativity of Our Lord School, Forward Rhinelander, Lake George Lake Association (Secretary), and the Hodag Blue Line Club (Treasurer) and also organizes dozens of bartenders for Hodag Country Fest as a Fundraising for Rhinelander Ice Association. He is passionate about Rhinelander and enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters on Lake George. Brett is a Graduate of Rhinelander High School (1999) and has a Bachelors Degree in Marketing from University of Minnesota (2003).

Matthew Berth

Matthew Berth

Matt is a Rhinelander native and a 2000 graduate of Rhinelander High School. He joined the United States Army in 2001 and was deployed to Iraq in 2003 to 2004 and Afghanistan 2008 to 2009. Matt has been coaching youth hockey for five years and loves every minute.

Mike Cheslock

Mike Cheslock

Mike is a fourth generation Rhinelander resident. He was born and raised here and is proud to be a Hodag! Upon graduation from college the first time around, his goal was to come back to Rhinelander and give back to the community that raised him. He spent four years as the Youth, Family, and Sports Program Director at the YMCA of the Northwoods (2004-2008). At that time he realized a passion for educating youth. Since 2013, he has been with the School District of Rhinelander as the Community Education Coordinator. His main purpose in this position is to bridge the gap between the community and the School District. Mike enjoys living in Rhinelander with his 10-year-old daughter. It is an exceptional area to raise a child and to live and recreate.

Josh and Jen Clark

Josh and Jen Clark

Josh is an investment partner/owner of six Culver’s restaurants in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Florida, and Ohio. Josh also has a background as a National Sales Manager for a manufacturing company out of Milwaukee, WI, as well as a Real Estate investor in rental properties and storage units. Josh has served on the board of directors for the Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce and currently on the Headwaters Board. Josh is married to Jen Clark (owner/operator Rhinelander Culver’s) and has two boys Connor (6) and Cooper (3). Interests include hunting, boating, golf, and enjoying all the Northwoods has to offer with his family!

Jessie Dick

Jessie Dick

Jessie is the President and Manager of WXPR Public Radio. She relocated to the Northwoods and began work at WXPR in 2003. She enjoys meeting and getting to know the supporters that make WXPR possible. Jessie is a member of Rhinelander Women’s Club and volunteers with ArtStart and Rhinelander PIE. She is a graduate of Colorado State University.

Tarsie Goes

Tarsie Goes

Tarsie is a marketing director, and during her nine year tenure she has overseen all marketing operations at Rhinelander Auto Center. Tarsie knows that giving willingly and being actively involved in the support of our communities provides her with professional and personal success. Tarsie holds a degree in graphic design through Nicolet College, and is recognized as a Rhinelander Chamber Ambassador, Amateur Radio Operator, co-coordinator of the Rhinelander Car Show, and a local PR go-getter. As a Tomahawk native, she is grateful for rooting her life in the Northwoods. Tarsie enjoys quality time with her husband and three year old son at home in the picturesque Harrison area.

Brandon Karaba

Brandon Karaba

Brandon graduated from Rhinelander High School in 2001 and then went on to play football and attend St. Norbert College. Shortly after college he was hired by Peoples State Bank, where he has been for 13 years working as a Mortgage Loan Officer. His lifelong passion of basketball and personal fitness is why he spearheaded the project of a lighted, outdoor basketball court (Rhinelander Kiwanis Court) located at Central school while he was serving as the President of Kiwanis. It’s with that same passion and drive that has carried into his presidency with the Athletic Booster Club. His wife, Kim, and one year old daughter, Braylee, are what drive and inspire him. He wants do his part for his family and for his community.

Ben Meyer

Ben Meyer

During the day, Ben works as the managing editor and senior reporter at WJFW-TV in Rhinelander. But the community means much more to him than just a place for work. Ben is the president of Rhinelander Partners in Education and serves as a board director for ArtStart and the YMCA of the Northwoods. Ben also volunteers at WXPR and for the Never Forgotten Honor Flight and plays baritone in the Rhinelander Area Community Band. In his free time, Ben enjoys calling Hodag sports on the radio, officiating WIAA basketball, competing in triathlons, and cross country skiing.

Dwight Webb

Dwight Webb

Rhinelander was, and is, Dwight’s home town, a place where all of his childhood memories were made. Dwight and his wife have two young children, with another on the way. One of his goals is to better the community in which his children will grow up in. Dwight’s hope is to have a community where children and others can make positive lifelong memories like he was able to do.

Matt Whalen

Matt came to the Rhinelander community in 2011 to join the growing regional accounting firm, Northland CPAs, where he serves as Manager of Taxation. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accountancy from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, holds a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants (WICPA). In addition to being devoted to his young family and the Rhinelander outdoors, Matt stays connected and engaged in the Rhinelander community as a volunteer with the YMCA of the Northwoods Board of Directors, Kiwanis Club of Rhinelander, and the City of Rhinelander Police and Fire Commission.

Amber Bellile

Amber Bellile

Amber is a 25 year old who grew up in Rhinelander but went to college in Stevens Point for Social Work and Sociology. She currently works full time as a case manager but also owns Oak Tree Boutique during the rest her time. She is very outgoing, loves to stay busy, and loves to help people in any way she can—whether it be in social work, life in general, or at the Boutique!

Tabitha Bennish

Tabitha Bennish

Tabitha is the partner and managing pharmacist of Stoxen Hometown Pharmacy. She and her husband have been residents of Rhinelander for about two years. In that time, she has become actively involved in Kiwanis, ArtStart, and has recently started attending Forward Rhinelander meetings. Tabitha is also currently participating in this years Citizen’s Police Academy. For leisure, Tabitha and her husband take advantage of the outdoor recreational activities in the area with their two dogs Lola and Arlo.

Nick Cirilli

Nick has been at attorney at Cirilli Law Offices since 2015. He has been involved in the Rhinelander community by serving as a board member for organizations such as the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce, Rhinelander Area Scholarship Foundation, and Headwaters, Inc. In his free time, Nick enjoys spending time outdoors.

Rob Deede

Rob Deede

For the the past two decades, Rob has tirelessly served Rhinelander and the greater Northwoods area. Dating back to 2000, he has been a volunteer, board member, coach, and, most recently, Track Operator of the Hodag BMX Club, a club promoting activity and developing community youth through the sport of BMX. Since 2011, Rob has been a registered nurse, helping nurture and improve the health of the community. Currently, he is North Central Wisconsin Healthcare Emergency Coalition Coordinator, helping the Northwoods community prepare for, respond to, and recover from disaster and catastrophic events.

Amy Ferguson

Amy Ferguson

Amy graduated from Rhinelander High School in 2005. She attained both her bachelor’s degree (2008) and law degree (2012) from UW-Madison. Amy is an attorney at O’Melia, Schiek & McEldowney, S.C., and her primary practice is criminal defense. She has served on a variety of committees and boards for the State Bar of Wisconsin and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the YMCA of the Northwoods and the Athletic Booster Club. In her spare time Amy enjoys traveling, reading, and being outside with her fiancé, Michael, and their new puppy, Lucy.

Miranda Gavrilescu

Miranda Gavrilescu

Miranda is the Marketing Coordinator for Rhinelander Auto Center where she helps with strategic planning and implementing marketing campaigns, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in communications and psychology from UW-Superior. She is an ambassador for the Rhinelander Chamber, is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Rhinelander, and actively volunteers for WXPR Public Radio. Miranda lives in Rhinelander with her husband, Shawn, and their dog, Daisy.

Kristin Guyette

Kristin Guyette

Kristin was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Kristin and her husband moved to Rhinelander in 2011 to live their lives surrounded by nature and the kindness a smaller town gives. They now have three children who keep us very busy! She has been a teacher with the School District of Rhinelander since 2011 and truly enjoy the opportunity to teach our young children.

Ben Hauser

Ben Hauser

Ben began his career as an audit and tax services associate with a national CPA firm after graduating from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accountancy. He joined Northland’s client service team in 2011. Ben has provided attest services within the healthcare, manufacturing, and construction industries. Ben’s service areas include partnership, corporate and individual income taxes; general business services and financial statement review and compilation services. Originally from Rhinelander, Ben is an avid outdoorsman and loves the recreational opportunities our area has to offer. Ben is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants (WICPA).

Mandy Hein

Mandy Hein

Mandy is a native of Rhinelander and graduate of Rhinelander High School and Nicolet College. She holds a bachelor’s degree and CPA (certified public accountant) and has devoted her career to helping Rhinelander businesses and organizations achieve financial success. She is the General Business Services Manager for Northland CPAs, Chairperson for the Nicolet College Accounting Advisory Committee, an adjunct instructor at Nicolet College focused on guiding businesses and entrepreneurs, and has volunteered her time for many organizations including Downtown Rhinelander, Inc. and the Rhinelander Food Pantry, keeping her connected and engaged in the community.

Scott Kirby

Scott Kirby

Scott, a 2003 graduate of Rhinelander High School, is; a musician/songwriter, volunteer radio host at WXPR, an ArtStart volunteer, a backyard chicken farmer, a Chamber of Commerce member, active with many different charities, on the steering committee for the North Central Wisconsin Citizen Action Group, a husband, and soon to be a father. Kirby keeps a full schedule of performances and in his free time he enjoys outdoor activities like boating, fishing, gardening, biking, hiking-frolfing and golfing, and even kite flying.

Christie Kondzela

Christie Kondzela

Christie graduated from Antigo High School in May 2010 and then went to college, graduating from Nicolet College in May 2013 with an Associated Degree in Criminal Justice. Christie started her full time Law Enforcement Career in January 2014 for the Rhinelander Police Department, getting promoted to Sergeant in August 2017, and she also began working as a rescue/recovery diver for the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department Dive team in January 2015. Christie volunteered as a Softball Coach for the Rhinelander High School Varsity/Junior Varsity team for the 2016, 2017, and 2018 seasons, and she participated in Jiujitsu at Groundwork Grappling since January 2018.

A proud Northwoods native, Jenny is working to inspire positive changes in the local workforce. She passionately works with those she serves to help them realize their potential through the Department of Workforce Development alongside devoting time to join the Northwoods Innovation, Forward Rhinelander, and the Rhinelander Ambassadors community groups.

Lucas Lee

Lucas Lee

Lucas is a sixth generation Rhinelander resident, born June 3, 1982. He is co-owner of Lee’s Painting Service, which specializes in commercial and residential interior/exterior painting, and complete drywall services throughout the Rhinelander area. In Lucas’ free time, he loves spending time with his wife and two children. He enjoys taking advantage of all the activities in the Rhinelander area including camping, fishing, hunting, and coaching for the Rhinelander Soccer Association. He is proud to say Rhinelander, Wisconsin is his home town.

Ashley Lundberg

Ashley Lundberg

Ashley is a Member Financial Specialist at Park City Credit Union. She was born and raised in Rhinelander, with the exception of one year in North Carolina. This is her home. She has one son and one dog.

Mackenzie is the Morning Edition Host / Features Editor at WXPR Public Radio in downtown Rhinelander. A Wausau native, she went to Macalester College in St. Paul, MN, before coming back to Wisconsin. In addition to being the voice WXPR listeners hear in the morning, she’s excited to start reporting on feature stories that highlight the people and culture of northern Wisconsin.

Brian Paulson

Brian Paulson

Brian was born and raised in Antigo, WI. Brian is blessed to have an amazing wife that has been along side of him as he has fulfilled some lifelong dreams: former Head Basketball Coach, Athletic/Activities Director, and four beautiful children. The City of Rhinelander is a great place to raise a family. As time allows, Brian has been part of the Rhinelander Booster Club, Hodag Schools Foundation, and YMCA. He enjoys any physical activities in his free time.

Eric Rady

Eric Rady

Eric has been happily married for six years and together, Eric and his wife have three amazing children. In 2003, he graduated from UW-Stevens Point with a Bachelor’s Degree in Forest Management and GIS/soils minors. Eric currently works with the Oneida County Forestry Department for almost 15 years as a Forester and Motorized Recreation Coordinator. He strives to be family-orientated, hard-working, and dedicated to his employer, along with being a father, husband, and friend. In his sparse spare time, Eric is an avid outdoorsman, has a great passion for the Northwoods, and looks to be outdoors at every opportunity.

Steve Sauer

Steve grew up in Rhinelander and is a proud graduate of RHS, class of ’99. He is proud to be the father of three and spend his life with his soon to be wife, Erica Chariton. After building a business, Flash McGee Inc (a FedEx Ground contract company), Steve was lucky enough to be able to step back and commit the majority of his life to giving back to the community. He has served the residents of Rhinelander’s District 7 for six years and is actively involved with Camp Fire/Camp Birchrock, Rhinelander Kiwanis, Lights of the Northwoods, and the Knights of Columbus.

Sarah Steinbacher

Sarah Steinbacher

Sarah has lived and worked all over the U.S. before moving back home to Wisconsin to settle in Rhinelander, where she loves the limitless outdoor recreation opportunities, minimal traffic, and unpretentious citizens. Her passion lies with her career in public libraries, which she believes are the lifeblood of small communities because of their inclusivity and free wealth of information and activities. When she isn’t running around the library, you can find her reveling in the outdoors with her dog and fiancé, reading a book, or playing a board game.

Sarah is an Administrative Professional at T.J. De Witt & Co., Inc., Electrical Contractor in Rhinelander, WI. She received her bachelor’s degree in Corporate Communications from University of Wisconsin Green Bay in 2016. Sarah is recognized for her willingness to teach and learn, her creativity, and her initiative and involvement in turning ideas into realities within her company and community.

Evan Verploegh

Evan Verploegh

After completing school at Edgewood College in Madison, Evan has become engaged in the Northwoods as a Digital Content Strategist for Kim Swisher Communications, a freelance writer, and a regular volunteer and event organizer for WXPR Public Radio and ArtStart Rhinelander. Evan also plays drums in the Rhinelander-based jazz/funk band Boat Patrol.

Toni Van Doren

Toni Van Doren

Toni is one part workforce development ninja, two parts mother of special needs kidlets, one part higher education aficionado, and zero parts math major. She is a board member for the Jump! Start Program, which promotes education for all abilities, and also for the Wisconsin Employment and Training Association. Toni is also a member of the Northern Advantage Job Fair Committee and volunteers for countless other opportunities to help others live the best lives they can. Her motto has always been to be someone who makes everyone feel included, important, and invigorated.

David Walters

David Walters

Through teaching and performing, it is Dave’s goal to nurture and create the next generation of musicians in our community. Music is an essential part of culture and the act of learning an instrument fosters creativity and innovation. By offering scholarships to students who don’t have the financial means, and seeking out audiences who don’t get the opportunity to listen to live music on their own (assisted living facilities), everybody in this town has access to live music. Dave is grateful for the chance to do what he loves and hopes to continue serving Rhinelander for years to come.

Erika has been employed at Nicolet College since 2012 and currently serves as the Director of Enrollment. She is a member of Rhinelander Partners in Education Marketing Committee. Erika enjoys volunteering with her church, Nativity of our Lord Parish, and other organizations in Rhinelander.
