Located on the shores of the Wisconsin River, Rhinelander is the only Up North Wisconsin community that combines the wild, natural, water-rich environment with an innovative urban-like infrastructure. Rhinelander boasts northern Wisconsin’s only regional airport, largest medical facilities, manufacturing headquarters, regional media, center of higher education, and forestry headquarters along with access to 1,100 lakes. It is a connected wilderness.
Run, bike, swim, ski, and explore nature daily with access to miles of winding, wooded trails, pristine water everywhere, and snowy slopes out your back door. Visitors and residents enjoy a historic downtown and access to shopping, restaurants, coffee shops, and a regional cultural community of arts, music, and theater. Whether forging an enterprising new start-up or seeking authentic outdoor adventure, trailblazing comes naturally in Rhinelander.

Unplug. Yet, stay connected in numerous ways. Rhinelander’s Oneida County Airport allows you to leave the lake house and jump on a plane to get where you’re going quickly. Interested in learning a foreign language? Nicolet College can teach you Spanish, gourmet cooking, and take you on an outdoor adventure on Lake Julia, which they offer in addition to 1- and 2-year career diplomas and degrees and liberal arts university transfer studies.
Hodags don’t use Ubers, they use boats. Life on the Boom Lake Flowage is both peaceful and lively. Experience it and you will want in on the adventure. A thriving community of pontoon boats, ski boats, fishing digs, and canoes keep life on the water a fun, connected place to be while maintaining the pristine beauty of the waterway. If you prefer to connect indoors, unwind with a Tai Chi class at the regional YMCA of the Northwoods.
